Homebuilders build homes.  Before those homes can be constructed, they must be defined, designed, and drafted.  The most successful home designs are those that result from a clear design process.  The key here is recognizing that design is but a component of a multi-stepped process. A process that Architecture Integrated.residential can generate, document, and tailor to your office and its practices thereby bringing value to the entire product development, or design of new homes phase.

Home designs are the foundation of a homebuilder’s business however, the tasks employed to create them, historically, have lacked the structure to ensure that a resulting home would meet the designer’s intent and the market needs.  It is because of this, that Architecture Integrated.residential takes a cross discipline approach to document this, a best practice method.  In doing this, the elements fundamental to the design of new homes process have also been described in detail to eliminate confusion and improve the usability of the design mapping tool.

Documented process mapping integrates the abilities of cross-functional teams to work together to develop the new homes as well as avoid the common pitfalls.   Tailoring such studies and documentation endables the builder to incorporate time tested methods of product development processes.  Adding to this, the key elements and concepts that can make the process successful, are aimed at bringing together all of the operating functions of homebuilder.

The resulting process diagram is applicable regardless of which of the basic four types of home design projects under consideration:

·         New product: involves a major development effort to create a new family of products based on a new, common platform.

·         Derivatives of existing product: extends an existing house product line platform to better address familiar markets with one or more new designs.

·         Incremental improvements to existing products: only involves adding or modifying some features of existing house designs in order to keep the product line current and competitive.

·         Fundamentally new products: involves radically different product configurations or construction technologies and may help to address new and unfamiliar markets.
