VP Architecture and Design, Centex Homes, Dallas, TX for 15 years responsible for oversight of the Centex Homes’ architectural program from design of the nearly 4,500 homes per year to the production drawings created for each by 61 separate divisions and 12 regional offices.  Implementation of the vision that architecture can be more than simply designs and working drawings developed a program for the extraction of mass properties and part/piece counts from the digital drawings, or Building Information Modeling (BIM).   The implementation to date has met a substantial success with a current rating of 85% of the items and properties which estimate the cost of the house being derived from the digital drawings.

We performed oversight and creative responsibility for various training vehicles for the architectural staffs, which includes paper document manuals, classroom training, web conference, and e-training.  All of this training is administered through a scheduling tool that allows for the cross training between architecture and the balance of the functional areas related to the design through construction of a residential building.

The time and focus while at Centex Homes culminated a history of work with other firms to perfect architecture methods, standards, and process improvements including CAD standards and the system used to apply them for drafting as well as many other experiences.  This  was created the while continuing to work with software developers to further address productivity needs that arise, improving the tools available to the drafting personnel.

The following is a selected list of the work experiences that Architectural Integration.residential draws on to serve its clients today.

  • Assisting in the integration of the architectural design/drafting software and managed the development of (CAD, Scheduling, Needs Recording, Web Plan Book, and Web Detail Library) with the software used by the balance of the functional areas.

    Creating a working drawing review and skills measurement system for all of the architectural personnel who produce them.  Overall, this program has improved the quality of working drawings by 210% over a 3 year period.

    Designed then managed the preparation of working drawings for a home for the ABC Network show "Extreme Makeover – The Dore Family".  This architectural work was completed and permitted in 11 days, and instrumental in the overall success of the accelerated build.

    Pioneered the use of Buzzsaw an Autodesk web based collaboration tool for maximum efficiency in the development and team approach to product development, plan posting and bidding. 

    In traditional architectural services, after the preparation of a successful design, transitioning it from preliminary through working drawings, or construction documents, for these projects.  In design development, building code analysis is performed, a primary structural system selected, all necessary consultants conferred with, and the interrelationship of all of the drawings in the set is established.  Subsequent to this, all quality assurance reviews performed for all completed plans finished by the drafting team in the office and the sets certified for distribution.    Architectural projects have ranged from countless single and multi-family dwellings, to retirement and semi-congregate care residential communities, retail shopping and medical office projects, coordination and municipality processing of major P.U.D. revisions and zoning revisions on a 10,000 acre planned community in Southwest metro-Denver, and a 25,000 square foot racquet facility with covered tennis courts.  The last complex included construction management services performed to a successful conclusion.

     Performed real estate analysis and asset management work on distressed projects.  This included preparation of physical audits, removal of legal issues preventing development or disposition, completion of zoning, design and architecture associated with highest and best use, completion of, or logically suspending construction and development, preparation of operating and disposition budgets, monitoring and reporting against budgets and plans, and ultimately the packaging and marketing of the assets individually for sale.
